What Is Xcel’s New Solar Energy Incentive All About, And Is Going Solar Worth it?

It is a kind of incentivized program that comes with super simple conditions. First, you need to earn “renewable energy credits.” And how do you do that? Use the energy generated by the solar system installed on your house. Then, you can make money from any point you don’t use. You will receive payments for the extra energy annually.

They have even introduced a bank for excess solar energy. A solar bank is a virtual place where you can easily store and reserve power for the coming months. Whenever the system generates more energy from the sun than is required, the excess energy gets sent back to the grid for subsequent consumption.

To qualify for this incentive program, one needs to be an Xcel Energy electricity consumer of business or resident. Additionally, the user’s identity on the registration should match the essence of the Xcel Energy account or bill. Finally, the company or residence must be inside the city of Denver. However, being located in the county of Denver is also a requirement of the Incentive program by Xcel.

Every apparatus used on the project must be UL 1741 approved, listed in the Solar Equipment Lists on the CEC site, and pop up in some new tab on that site. Additionally, there is a need to produce standard liability insurance or even possibly increase that insurance coverage depending on the size of the solar panel system in case of any relevant occurrence. The requirements are not an exhaustive list considering the conditions involved; it’s pretty simple. Keep reading to know more.

How to get started if one would like to apply for the incentives and add solar panels to the Denver home or business?

Are you planning to hop on the bandwagon? Don’t get too excited now; there are a few mandatory steps you would need to take before moving forward.

  • It would help if you initially found a reliable solar installer, and that installer must be a Denver local
  • Then it would help if you chose the participating programs that are still available.
  • Lastly, you must apply for an interconnection agreement that will typically require your PV solar plans.

With these three simple steps, you can participate in Denver’s solar adoption incentive program. The incentives will help you save money and energy simultaneously, and you will rest very well, knowing Xcel had a big part in making this happen.
